Welcome to UniSplitr (“UniSplitr,” “we,” “our,” or “us”). These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of our mobile applications, website, and related services (together, the “Services”). Please read them carefully. By creating an account or using the Services, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, you must not use the Services.
1. Eligibility

You must be at least 17 years old to use UniSplitr.

If your under 18 years old you must have consent from a parent or guardian to register.

You must comply with all applicable laws in your country of residence.
2. Accounts and Security

You can sign up using Apple, Google, or email. Authentication is managed by third-party providers (e.g., Firebase).

You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure.

We do not store plain text passwords.

If you believe your account is compromised, notify us immediately at support@unisplitr.com .

You are responsible for all activity under your account.

You must provide accurate information and keep it up to date.
3. The Services
UniSplitr is a student house management tool. With an account, you may:

Create or join a house group.

Use chat and group messaging features.

Manage and view shared calendars, bills, and chores.

Create one-off bill reminders (note: no payments are processed through the app).

Adjust personal settings (language, currency, profile, etc.).
The Services are provided for information and organisation only. We do not:

Handle or process financial transactions.

Guarantee repayment of shared bills or debts.

Provide financial, legal, or tenancy advice.
4. User Responsibilities
You agree to:

Use the Services lawfully and respectfully.

Being solely responsible for the content you post, including text, images, and voice notes.

Not post illegal, offensive, abusive, or harmful content.

Not use the Services for spam, fraud, infringing, misleading content or unauthorised commercial activity.

Ensure the accuracy of any bill, event, or information you enter.
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that breach these Terms.
5. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:

Attempt to hack, disrupt, or overload the Services

Share accounts or impersonate another person

Harvest or misuse other users' data
6. Privacy
We respect your privacy. Our Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information, including compliance with UK GDPR. By using UniSplitr, you also agree to the Privacy Policy.
7. Intellectual Property

All intellectual property in the Services (including branding, logos, and software) belongs to UniSplitr.

You may not copy, modify, distribute, or exploit our intellectual property without permission.

You retain ownership of content you submit (e.g., messages, photos), but grant us a non-exclusive licence to host and display it for the purpose of operating the Services.

We are not responsible for disputes or losses between users (e.g., unpaid bills).

9. Limitation of Liability

UniSplitr will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Services.

Our total liability to you for any claim will not exceed the amount you have paid to us in the past 12 months.
Nothing in these Terms limits your statutory rights under UK law.
10. Termination
You may stop using the Services at any time.
We may suspend or terminate access if you breach any of these Terms, misuse the Services, or if we are required to by law.
11. Changes to the Terms
We may update these Terms occasionally. If we make material changes, we will notify you (e.g., via the app or email). Continued use of the Services after changes take effect means you agree to the updated Terms.
12. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
13. Data Retention
Upon account deletion, we will delete or anonymise your personal data in accordance with our Privacy Policy and applicable laws. Some non-identifiable or aggregated data may be retained for analytics or legal compliance.
14. Feedback
If you provide us with feedback or suggestions about the Services, we may use it without any obligation to compensate you.
15. Inactivity Policy
We reserve the right to deactivate or delete accounts that have been inactive for more than 12 months. We will notify you via email before taking such action.
16. Force Majeure
UniSplitr shall not be liable for any delay or failure in performance resulting from causes beyond our reasonable control, including but not limited to acts of God, internet outages, third-party service failures, or legal restrictions.
17. Third-Party Services
UniSplitr integrates with third-party services (e.g., Apple, Google, Firebase) for login and functionality. We are not responsible for the availability, security, or content of these services. Your use of such services is subject to their own terms and privacy policies.
18. Beta Features
From time to time, we may release beta features for testing and feedback. These features may be incomplete or unstable. We make no guarantees regarding their availability, performance, or reliability.
19. Support and Availability
While we aim to provide a stable and accessible service, there may be times when UniSplitr is unavailable due to maintenance, updates, or issues beyond our control.

20. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless UniSplitr, its affiliates, and team members from any claims, losses, damages, or legal fees arising from your use of the Services, your violation of these Terms, or your infringement of any third-party rights.
21. Entire Agreement
These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and UniSplitr regarding the use of the Services and supersede all prior agreements or understandings.
22. Survival
The provisions of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination shall survive termination, including ownership provisions, warranty disclaimers, indemnity, and limitations of liability.
